Pro billiards sensation Kim Young-won, Ha Xia-shi face off in PBA opening round finale

The 'Young Guns' of the PBA Billiards season opener will meet in the quarterfinals. 'Youngest' Kim Young-won (16) and 'Turkiye God' Burak Hashashi (18∙High One Resort) won their quarterfinal matches side by side to advance to the semifinals.
In the quarterfinals of the Woori Financial Capital PBA Championship held at the Goyang Kintex PBA Stadium in Goyang, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, on the 23rd, Kim Young-won came from behind to win in straight sets against veteran Hwang Duk-hee (Eswai), 3:2, and Hashashi won 3:1 against Lee Seung-jin.
Kim Young-won reached her first professional quarterfinal with a come-from-behind victory over Hwang Duk-hee. After dropping the first set 4:15 in six games, Kim fought back to take the second set 15:3 (6 games). After dropping the third set 7:15 (7 games), Kim fought back to take the fourth set 15:8 (6 games).
In the fifth set, Kim Young-won continued to battle back and forth, responding to Hwang Duk-hee's four points with five points of her own. Down 7-8 in the seventh, Hwang Duk-hee scored two points to make it 9-8, but her return bank shot went wide. Kim Young-won took over the offense and scored the remaining three points to win 11:9 and the set 3:2.
"I thought (Hwang's) last shot was a hard shot to miss, and I thought it was over, but when I couldn't score, I thought, 'It's here,'" Kim reflected after the match. "Now that I'm in the 스포츠토토 semifinals, I want to go to the final, and it's fun to play against good players and gain experience," she said.
Regarding her quarterfinal opponent, Kim Young-won said, "Hashashi is really good. She's better than me. I will have to play harder in the semifinals."
After taking the first set 15:11 (10 games) against Lee Seung-jin, Hashashi dropped the second set 5:15 (9 games) in a tightly contested match. He then took the third set 15:8 (7 games) to take a 2:1 lead in the set, and in the fourth set, he took an early lead with eight high-run points in his first attack to win 15:2 in six games to punch his ticket to the quarterfinals.
In the other quarterfinal match, Kang Dong-gung (SK Rent-a-Car) defeated Shin Jeong-ju (Hana Card) in a close three-setter to reach the quarterfinals. In the fifth set, which was tied at 2-2, Kang used a high run of eight points to win 11-0. David Martinez (Spain/Crown Haetae) also reached the semifinals after defeating Choi Sung-won (Huons) in straight sets, 3:1.
On the final day of the tournament, the 24th, the first semifinal match between Kim Young-won and Ha Xia-shi will begin at 12:30pm, followed by the second semifinal match between Kang Dong-gung and Martinez at 3:30pm. The winners of the semifinals will face off in the final match at 9 p.m. for the 100 million won grand prize.
